The 2000 Series is the product of Heybrook's 25 year experience in loudspeaker design and manufacture. The range covers all possible uses of loudspeakers in the home, from a small bedroom system to a full scale home theatre installation. It also includes discreet, high quality, surface mounting loudspeakers where conventional cabinets are inappropriate. 2 channel stereo systems can be built around the HB1-4 bookshelf and floor standing models. Dolby 5.1 or 7.1 surround systems would also include one or two HBC1 Centre Channel loudspeakers. the HBS2OO Sub-woofer and the Point Five surround monitors if space doesn't allow larger loudspeakers to be used at the rear.
The 2000 Series features the use of custom designed Kevlar drive units. Woven Kevlar fibre has a significantly higher strength to weight ratio than other diaphragm materials. Kevlar cones can therefore be lighter than usual allowing them to be more responsive, while the material's superior self-damping properties ensure that this agility is achieved without introducing unwanted colouration to the sound.
The predictable behaviour of the Kevlar cones also allows the use of simple, 'first order' crossover networks. These lend the amplifier far greater control over the drive units and the loudspeaker a greater sense of immediacy and clarity. Normal 'Hi-fi' crossover networks are more complex, smearing the signal transmitted by the amplifier to the drive units and usually making the loudspeakers sound confused and slow.
The cabinets are massively built with extensive internal bracing which keeps mechanical resonance to a minimum. The floor standing models have carpet piercing spikes and chambers which may be sand filled to provide additional stability and the cleanest possible low bass performance. The HBCI centre channel loudspeaker has full magnetic shielding and has been voiced to perfectly match the performance of the main speakers. The HBS2OO features a custom designed 254 mm paper driver (Kevlar being less suitable for large diameter diaphragms) and an integral 100 Watt power amplifier with infinitely adjustable output level and filter characteristics. The Point Five surround monitors may be wall mounted with the adjustable B1 wall brackets.
